Brooklands Museum, Weybridge

#1 of 32 in Museums in Surrey
Specialty Museum · Museum
Brooklands Museum presents a slice of British motoring and aviation history on the site of an original 1907 motor-racing circuit. This historic site includes four heritage-listed buildings, large hangars, and preserved sections of the old racing circuit. Visit the site to see a wide range of exhibits, including race cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. Arguably the most impressive feature of the museum’s extensive collection is the Concorde G-BBDG, the first aircraft ever to carry 100 people at twice the speed of sound. The museum also owns a Vickers Vimy replica, built in America in 1994 to re-enact and commemorate the world’s first transatlantic flight. Check online for the Concorde tour times and other Concorde-related special events. • So much history in one small place. The role Brooklands played in motoring and aviation history is staggering. World firsts and world records, innovations and developments and the important contribution to the war effort - all superbly told in the many exhibits here. We visited during the summer holidays, and there’s extra kid friendly entertainment laid on too - including Hotrod rides around a section of the banked track. Marvellous! The aviation hangers are excellent, highly interactive and hugely interesting - don’t forget to ‘clock-in’. The old aircraft are interesting. The evolution of Grand Prix cars is fascinating. There’s beautiful cars, bygone era buses, a Concorde!! The huge number of volunteers need a huge shout out too. Every person we spoke to had a wealth of knowledge they were eager to share. A great day out for well under £20.
  • One of the best transport museums that I have visited. Beautifully restored and maintained exhibits. A must for young and old alike. There are many exhibits that you are allowed to sit on/ go into which makes it very exciting for younger children. Knowledgeable guides on hand to answer your questions and give a wealth of knowledge. Simulators for the Red Devil’s, F1 racing and the Concord. The highlight of the day was to get “ the Concord experience “. For £5 you get your boarding pass and board the bus that used to take passengers to the plane. (The bus doesn’t physically take you to the plane, you walk to it.) You board the plane and watch a video showing different things about the Concord. The guide was very informative and at the end you received a ‘flight’ certificate. Well stocked, reasonably priced gift shop. Restaurant available. Plan to spend at least 4 hours here and that will probably still not be enough.
