Create an itinerary including Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof)
At Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof), see how the city of music built monumental tombs for some of the world's best composers. Landscape architects Karl Jonas Mylius and Alfred Friedrich Bluntschli designed the cemetery in 1870. This final resting place for people of all religions spreads across 2.5 sq km (620 acres). Take a tour with an audio guide and check out the most interesting spots: honorary graves, a church, presidential crypt, Mozart cenotaph, War Memorial, and Park of Peace and Power. Take a car or a public "cemetery bus" line to see more spots, and visit the graves of famous composers Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and Strauss. Work out when and for how long to visit Central Cemetery (Zentralfriedhof) and other Vienna attractions using our handy Vienna road trip website.

  • Recommended for an afternoon walk and it was not disappointing. Easy to get to on the 71 tram and a nice walkabout with plenty of benches. I used Google Maps to get around and it was perfect. I...

  • save for a map to where the remembrance point for Mozart was located, no real overview. Due to an injured leg, I gave up. A cemetry with wild bushes and trees, not so special

  • The Central Cemetery (Wiener Zentralfriedhof) is a beautiful place to walk around in. You can look at the different grave sites, including those of famous composers, and other historical figures. You may even spot some of the little animals in the cemetery. If you do not speak German and you're looking for something specific, e.g., Beethoven's grave, it would be best to look it up ahead of time as it may be difficult to find your way around once there (without speaking German).
  • Loved walking around the cemetery where it is quiet and serene. If you like classical music you can find cemeteries of the famous composers (Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss and Brahms) from the classical era. They also have cemeteries of famous artists and architects.
