Fort Carre
Fort Carre is also known as Fort Carré d'Antibes. It was named the squared foot in the 16th-century when Henri de Mandon (Henry III) added four arrowhead shaped bastions to a tower called la tour Saint-Florent. In the 17th century, the Marquis de Vauban fortified the fort by adding traverses and outer walls, enlarging the embrasures and exchanging the stone parapets for brick parapets. Fort Carre is also well known for housing (imprisoning) Napoleon Bonaparte for 10 days and the villain's fortress in the James Bond film, Never Say Never Again. Great example of historic fortifications on the coast. Notice the little 'spanish' towers in several places (rare). Spectacular walk along the coastal wall.

Walking around the fort is worth as you can enjoy the sea view but you can't enter without reservation. Good for history lovers and nature lovers because they have protected nature on the land area around Fort Carre. Not far from beautiful and calm beach and big parking and bus number 14.
