At the end of the 19th Century, Roxelane Villa was named in honor of the famous role by a French comedic actress, Madame Thébault, who had played the legendary wife of Sultan Suleiman. Madame Thébault was a friend of Claude Monet, who would often work on his paintings in Etretat. In 1905, inspired by the artist, Madame Thébault decided to create a garden on the Falaise d’Amont with avant-garde elements and overtones of impressionism reflecting Monet’s work.

Fascinated with this story, a famous landscape architect, Alexander Grivko, has recreated the magnificent gardens of Les Jardins d’Etretat (Etretat Gardens). Ideas of green sculptures have been borrowed from the nature of the Normandy coastline, while over 100 thousand kinds of plants make the gardens beautiful all year around. The unique collection of modern art objects artistically fits into the concept of Les Jardins d’Etretat, helping visitors to contemplate the nature and the surrounding world through the lens of art.

  • Nice garden, well maintained. A bit challenging with small kids though
  • A wonderfully arrangement of sculptures and nature. Good access to most able bodied persons, but challenging terrain/ slopes and steps are the nature of the attraction
