Église Sainte-Madeleine, Troyes

Rebuilt in the 13th century in the early Gothic style Église Sainte-Madeleine is the oldest church in Troyes. The Renaissance tower and the portal to the old cemetery date from 1525, while the nave was restored in the 19th century. You can see one of the few preservations of a Renaissance rood screen, which looks like stone lace by sculptor Jehan Gailde. The ambulatory has beautiful stained glass windows from the 16th century including the colorful Tree of Jesse and many 16th-century statues including St. Sebastian and St. Marta, masterpieces by sculptor Chaource. More statues includes the sculpture of the Virgin and Child and the sculpture depicting the baptism of Saint Augustine.
