Mopti
Originally a small fishing village, Mopti has become Mali's center of fishing and livestock industries. When the Inner Niger Delta floods, Mopti transforms into a series of islands connected by raised causeways. Sightseeing in Mopti reveals Sudano-Sahelian architecture in monuments and mosques, the largest of which has been recognized by UNESCO for its historical value. Small fishing communities attract visitors to mingle with the local Dogon tribes, famous for their religious traditions and mask dances. Note that during the floods, the road from Mopti to nearby Sevare is the only way to access the town. Plan your tour of Mopti and Mali travel itinerary using our Mali road trip site.
