One of the four primary churches in the city's old town, Church of St. Peter represents the first Protestant religious building in the city after the Reformation. Built on the site of a temple of Jupiter, the church was consecrated in 1706. Its steeple houses the largest church clock face in Europe, with a diameter of 8.7 m (28.5 ft). The tower, used as a fire watch post until 1911, is owned by the city, but the nave of the church is owned by the Evangelical parish. Be sure to view the church bells, dating back to 1880, and the carved wooden structures inside. Check opening hours on the website prior to your arrival. A historical church that is quite different from the other Zurich churches, in that when we visited, the door was left opened with no one manning it. We were able to explore the interior on our own and there was also no entry fees. The church is also quieter than the others and felt more peaceful.

Beautiful, historic, ancient church with a wonderful bell toll. Take the time to walk around the roads leading to the church as there are many great picture opportunities.
