Located in the popular holiday region of Ticino, Lugano is the largest Italian-speaking town in Switzerland.
Do some cultural sightseeing at Chiesa San Rocco and Monte San Giorgio. Take a break from the city and head to The Olive Grove Trail and Cimetta. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lugano: Locarno (Ghisla Art Collection, Camellia Park, &more), Bellinzona (Piazza Indipendenza, Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie, &more) and Ascona (Fondazione Monte Verita & Piazza G. Motta). Zurich to Lugano is an approximately 2.5-hour flight. You can also drive; or take a train. In February, plan for daily highs up to 10°C, and evening lows to 0°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 17th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Airolo.

Airolo is a municipality in the district of Leventina in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland.HistoryIn the settlement of Madrano, Roman tombs from the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD were found. Step out of the city life by going to Cascate di Santa Petronilla and Waterfall of Foroglio. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Museo Nazionale del San Gottardo and Chiesa dei SS. Pietro e Paolo. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Airolo: Wasserfall Von Foroglio (in Foroglio), Chiesa di Santa Maria del Castello (in Giornico) and The Froda Waterfall (in Sonogno). Next up on the itinerary: grab your bike and head to Funivie Airolo-Pescium and take in the dramatic scenery at Cascata della Piumogna.
