Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Arundel Castle and Gardens and Ely Cathedral. Get out of town with these interesting London side-trips: Highclere Castle (in Highclere), Christ Church Cathedral (in Oxford) and IWM Duxford (in Duxford). There's much more to do: admire the masterpieces at National Gallery, steep yourself in history at Buckingham Palace, make a trip to Winchester Cathedral, and get a sense of history and politics at Houses of Parliament.
