Statue of Lenin, Ashgabat

On January 27, 1924, on the day of the funeral of Vladimir Lenin, the laying of the monument took place. The commission for the construction of the monument was headed by the chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Turkmen SSR, Nedirbay Aytakov. People voluntarily gave part of their salary for the construction of the monument, many of the work was done on communist subbotniks and Sundays. The monument was erected on November 7, 1927 in the center of the city. Sculptor - E. R. Tripolskaya, architect - A. A. Karelin, ceramist - N. I. Nazarov. On May 1, 1929, it was finally opened to the public. The monument withstood the Ashgabat earthquake in 1948, with virtually no damage. In Soviet times, a museum was located inside.
