What is The Speaking Tree?

The Speaking Tree started out as a little canvas-covered stall in the alleyway of "The Glastonbury Experience" (a kind of alternative shopping mall in Glastonbury), where Gareth Mills sold secondhand books. The stall grew into Courtyard Books , a secondhand bookshop just paces from the stall. Then Gareth took on No. 5 High Street, selling new books, and called the shop 'The Speaking Tree'.

We have continued to develop quickly supplying shops and individuals throughout the country and planet and appearing at various UK festivals and MBS weekends. We have two shops and a warehouse based in Glastonbury. We wholesale globally and welcome trade enquiries and visitors to our warehouse (by appointment).

At the Speaking Tree we do our best to be environmentally responsible - reusing then recycling all our paper, employing local craftspeople to fit out our shops with natural materials, buying fairtrade and eco-friendly products, and using Ecotricity to supply our electricity.
