A filming location for three Harry Potter films, Gloucester Cathedral is also one of England's most attractive cathedrals. Its foundation dates back to the establishment of an abbey here in the seventh century. Today you'll find a fine example of Gothic architecture. Take a guided tour to learn about the cathedral's intricate details, such as the Norman roof from the Early English period and the medieval glass in the east window. For views over the whole complex and out into Gloucester, walk the 269 steps to the top of the tower. The cathedral's renowned choir performs regularly, so check its schedule to hear a concert. You can also attend a religious service here. Add Gloucester Cathedral to your Gloucester travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Gloucester trip itinerary website.

First impressions, friendly lady on the welcome desk who seemed really happy to be there. The volunteers were nice and well informed. Steps not recommended for the elderly. Good views minus the scaffolding. Only a donation recommended for entry

An amazing visit, plenty to see, so much history. Well with the time to seek out and enjoy some time to reflect and learn. The stained glass windows are in abundance and are both ancient and new and the mix in styles is surprising. The cloisters are stunning and a must when visiting, the central garden is beautiful and a haven of peace. You can even buy a packed lunch in the cafe so you can sit in the garden to eat there. We were lucky to be there whilst a young couple were getting married so we got to hear the organ and the bells in their full glory. The bride was of course radiant and had the most stunning dress. It made the visit that extra but special.
