Documenting the history of a city as iconic and important as London is no easy task, but Museum of London does so with care and attention to detail. Founded in 1976, the museum covers a period of time spanning all the way back to the prehistoric era and up to the present day. Overlooking the city’s ancient Roman wall, the museum contains a series of galleries replete with artifacts, models, pictures, and diagrams. Exhibit space here contains about one million objects. See what the city was like under the Romans and Saxons, learn about the impact of various civil wars on the city, and wander recreated Victorian streets and pleasure gardens. If you're traveling with children and would like to make their visit more engaging, download activity sheets from the museum's website beforehand. • A fascinating insight into London's past, with the Museum to undergo relocation. With a move away I assume the old roman wall viewed from a museum window will not be moved as well.

  • We loved this museum. Very informative and filled with fabulous artifacts and scenes of times gone by. Highly recommended for anyone interested in how London developed from a small settlement to the capital city we know today. The staff were very good, greeting us and providing information and direction. And its FREE! Well done to the curators and staff for providing such a brilliant place to visit.
  • London has some of the best museums in the world and so many of then are free to boot. This museum is well set up to tell the story of of London from prehistoric times all the way into the modern Era. Each section highlights major events, technologies, and traditions to illustrate the corresponding time period. The medieval section and the women's suffrage exhibits particularly captured my attention.
