If you enjoy a good costume drama, Charlecote Park is probably your cup of tea. You can even on a period maid’s apron and try your hand in its fully operational Victorian kitchen. Home to the Lucy family for more than 800 years, the house is one of England’s best-preserved estates with formal gardens and miles of woodland walks opposite the River Avon. Costumed volunteers lead guided tours through the brewhouse, tack room and great hall. You’re welcome to enjoy a sit-down meal at the on-site restaurant or bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds, where William Shakespeare was once caught poaching. One of the best NT sites we've been to. We visited at Easter and there was a treasure hunt for children which was really thoughtfully planned out and not too strenuous for little legs! We saw the deer and lots of wildlife by the lake too. You can see a lot in a short distance if mobility is an issue or you have small children, but there are some longer walks as well and it didn't feel crowded even though there were lots of cars in the car park.

Lovely house and grounds. As expected of a nation trust property. Very well kept. Unfortunately upon my visit the house was closed for maintenance yet spectacular grounds were open. Parking is ample. If you have small children or bicycles you do have to cross a road from the car park to the grounds so do be careful.
